Veggie-Go’s

I was kinda trying to stay away from my computer today. But then I was eating some Veggie-Go’s chewy fruit and veggie snacks, and realized that I should probably be doing a review right about now. So here I am, here you are. Hi. Nice to meet you.

Veggie-Go’s chewy fruit and veggie snacks are fruit leathers (that’s what I call them), that are both fruit and vegetable flavored fruit (and vegetable) snacks. They are vegan, soy free, dairy free, gluten free, organic, and are Non-Gmo approved. Each fruit snack flavor has added nutrients such as vitamin A, Omega 3, and Antioxidants. They are available in four flavors (Mountain Berry Spinach, Cinnamon Spiced Beet, Sweet Potato Pie, Carrot Ginger. The fruit snacks are thin, but not too thin. Just right. I will talk about each one individually, being that every flavor had its own individual flavor profile. I will talk about them in the order of favorite to least favorite.

The Sweet Potato Pie was delicious. Its made with Organic Sweet Potatoes, Organic Apples, Organic Cinnamon, Organic Ginger, Organic Nutmeg, Organic Cloves. I love the idea of using sweet potatoes in a fruit snack. Its different, the vegetable alone has natural occurring sugar. This is a good thing because the more natural occurring sugar you get from the fruits and vegetables added to the fruit snack, the less likely chance of getting any added sugar in the mix. The brightness and slight spiciness of the ginger was pronounce, but not over whelming. I think that is because of the sweet potato. Its puts the ginger in its place. I did get some sharpness from the apple and some added sugar from it. The nutmeg was not subtle, but not overused. As was the cloves and Cinnamon.

The Mountain Berry Spinach was also tasty. Its made with Organic Apples, Organic Spinach, Organic Strawberries, Organic Raspberries, Organic Blueberries, Organic Sweet Potatoes. While I didn’t taste the sweet potatoes in here too much. They definitely made sure that the berries were more prominent in this bar. So you don’t get a repeat of flavors. This flavor was not over sweetened like the traditional fruit snacks can be. I did not get the “green” taste that spinach can give out when combined with fruits. This particular flavor was filled to the brim with antioxidants.

The Cinnamon Spiced Beet flavor was kind of confusing. Its made with Organic Beets, Organic Apples, Organic Sweet Potatoes, Organic Cinnamon, Organic Flax Seeds. Don’t get me wrong I like the beet flavor. I like the natural sweetness I get from it and the flavor all by its self. I am however confused as to why they decided to sprinkle whole (not grounded) flax seeds on one side of the bar. If you have ever tasted flax seeds. you know that they are quite hard and can be a bit of a challenge to chew. With that being said, if you use them in a way where they are meant to be a crunchy element, they can come off as being “that annoying crunchy stuff” in your food. I think that if they wanted to include the flack seeds into the fruit snack, they should have grounded them up, and then put them on the fruit snack. Besides that, I enjoyed this flavor. The cinnamon was a little too strong, but nothing you cant handle. By the time I tasted this flavor, I began to realize that the sweet potato aided in texture. Which I did not mind at all.

The Carrot Ginger flavor however, was not enjoyable at all to me. It is made with Organic Carrots, Organic Apples, Organic Ginger. This is the only flavor that does not use sweet potatoes in it. Well, it needed it. Allot. Because carrots do not have a strong flavor profile on their own, the ginger completely took over. Its tasted good, it was just really spicy in something I thought was supposed to be sweet. I felt tricked and pranked. Deliciously pranked that is.

Over all, I say give them a try. I think that Veggie-go’s bring something different to the table of fruit snacks. Their healthy, delicious, and unique. The fact that they are a organic Non-Gmo project approved product is a plus. And you cant lose on the added nutritional benefits.
